HOW WE HELP DEFEND AMERICA FROM HEALTH, SAFETY, AND SECURITY THREATS

Center for Disease Control
Atlanta, Georgia

The Division of Laboratory Sciences (DLS) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (National Center for Environmental Health) is the largest and most complex federal laboratory to receive LEED Gold certification. While implementing many innovative design solutions, the building's requirements for environmental control, security, chain-of-custody, and safety create unique circumstances that the building must respond to as conditions and laboratory agenda evolve.

This was quite a large project, with over one thousand pieces of equipment provided by Paragon Controls. Due to the biohazards and other potentially hazardous strains of bacteria, viruses, and toxins, it was of the utmost importance that this facility be monitored with extremely accurate devices. Maintaining proper pressurization in all the various areas could assist in avoiding potentially fatal accidents and also further safeguard researchers as they work to advance the nations understanding of disease control and prevention.
